Self-confidence is the perspective about our skills and abilities. We know our strengths and weaknesses well and self-confidence is the way we accept and believe in ourselves. Self-confidence makes us strong, and energetic and gives us a positive attitude. We can face challenges with self-confidence and succeed in our personal and professional lives. It helps to make better decisions. A lack of self-confidence makes us dull and less energetic and often find it difficult to trust others and move ahead in life. Hence building self-confidence is very important in life. Here are a few tips to gain self-confidence.
Take care of yourself physically and emotionally. Exercise regularly, eat a healthy and balanced diet, follow a healthy lifestyle, and practice yoga and meditation. A sound mind always lies in a sound body. Being physically fit, makes you feel better psychologically. Do breathing exercises regularly. This brings extra oxygen to your brain and promotes your ability to stay calm. If you are calm, your stress level will be reduced. You feel happier and boost your self-confidence.
Remove negative thoughts from your mind. To have negative thoughts is with every human. Identify your thought process. Understand the triggers and try to avoid them. Try to involve in some good habits. Practice breathing exercises. When you are tensed or stressed, close your eyes and take deep breaths. Try to overcome your emotions at that moment. Talk to someone who stays close to you and discuss your problems.
Set small goals and try to achieve them. Setting short-term goals help us to stay motivated over time. Small goals are easily achievable and once achieved, we will be more confident to face bigger ones.
Always celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small they are. This is an important part of building and maintaining self-assurance and boosting our self-confidence.
Learn new skills and take on new challenges. This helps to improve yourself and allows you to go out of your comfort zone.
Always try to indulge in a group of positive people. They can inspire us to be better, support us in our goals and encourage us to make positive changes. They challenge us to grow and develop in new ways. We can learn from them, share ideas and create new opportunities.
Building self-confidence is a slow process and it takes time and effort. Be patient. Work hard to achieve our goals. Have faith in ourselves and our capabilities and say to ourselves that there is nothing that we cannot accomplish.
Bhagavad Gita says: “uddhared ātmanātmānaṁ nātmānam avasādayet
ātmaiva hyātmano bandhur ātmaiva ripur ātmanaḥ”
Meaning: We are responsible for our own elevation or degradation. The mind can be the friend and also the enemy of the self.
Our biggest enemy is our own mind. It is the destroyer that hinders our aspirations for perfection. A controlled mind has the potential to give us more benefits and an uncontrolled mind has the potential to cause harm. Our mindset impacts our confidence levels. A confident mindset leads to peace, strength, growth, and success. A lack of confidence can affect the mind and lead to negative self-talk, anxiety, fear, and failure. Hence it is extremely important to focus on developing a positive mindset and nurturing our confidence levels.
Remember Swami Vivekananda’s words: “Believe in yourself. And the world will be at your feet.”
